Development update

Keeping the whole suite moving towards software you own.

The 9 September Kickstarter preview brings current Photo editing fixes and Darkroom’s RAW and colour workflows together with a branded launcher. Core editing, save/reopen and export checks pass on the development PC. Work continues across all eight apps, with broader real-file testing, fresh-PC checks and complete Photo–Darkroom handoff validation next.

The goal remains an independent creative and productivity suite for Windows, with a permanent licence and no mandatory monthly subscription. Photo and Darkroom lead the current preview, while all eight apps remain part of the plan.

Recent development

What has moved forward.

Photo

Editing tools, text, layers and everyday interactions have received attention. Stability checks and user testing continue to shape the next improvements.

Darkroom

RAW processing, colour management, file compatibility and export have expanded in development builds. Broader camera testing and the Photo handoff are next.

NeoWorks PDF Editor

A substantial development build brings object editing, text recognition, forms, signing and comparison. More complex document workflows still need work.

NeoWorks Kickstarter Preview — Photo + Darkroom

A refreshed Windows preview with current Photo editing fixes, Darkroom RAW and colour workflows, and a shared launcher using the original NeoWorks icons.

  • Photo: refined brushes, selections, layers and save/reopen behaviour, plus the Delete selection fix and visible build ID.
  • Darkroom: native RAW decoding, float development, ICC colour management, PSD/PSB merged previews and export.
  • Original NeoWorks app icons, a shared launcher and an optional desktop shortcut.
  • Portable Windows x64 package with .NET and Visual C++ runtimes included.

Known preview limits

  • Development preview: use copies and keep backups. Photo tools marked in development remain unfinished.
  • Complex Photoshop compatibility is not guaranteed. Darkroom reads merged PSD/PSB composites; it does not edit PSD layers. HEIC/AVIF need compatible Windows codecs.
  • The complete Darkroom-to-Photo edit/save-return workflow, long sessions and testing on a fresh Windows installation remain pending.
  • This preview is unsigned. Photo uses its managed renderer.
